To Mark – you joined my journey a few years ago at a time when my self-confidence was a little shaken. Mature in years and certainly a ‘not scared of much’ woman, I was excited to join the Army Cadet Force (ACF) as an adult volunteer. Starting out was an awful experience however, at a point I do not quite remember, I was introduced to a group of individuals who were to make a huge impression on me and enable me to stay within the amazing organisation that is the ACF. Mark, you were a leading personality in an incredibly special bunch of people who thankfully took me in and allowed me to see what inspirational and dedicated adults could offer to young people and how that could make others – namely me – aspire to achieve the same. Mark, your endless patience, quiet firmness and drive and gentle good humour was a special gift, one which is unique and is your legacy to the numerous young people whose lives you have touched over the 26 years of your service to the ACF. Tammy: “Mark, are we lost?” Mark: “No we are not lost, I’m just not sure where we are.” Tammy: “Ah…………….” Mark: “…Oh look there’s a fence…that’s good.” Mark, thank you for walking with me and being and example to us all – sleep well.
